It was updated in Peazip and other solutions almost immediately under a standard disclosure policy, and it's now a few versions ahead.
Most people don't care about benchmarks and just use RAR solid because people who don't know claim it's the best next to high-ratio PAQ(it's not). I've been using 7zip LZMA2 solid(most efficient) for many years and use it on all my backup drives.
There was a code exec bug in WinRAR(by author of format and algorithm too) around the same time having to do with bitmap splash screens or something..
Luckily smart people use compression tools based purely on performance, and the same people know how common buffer overflows are even in hardened products..
EDIT: Oh yeah some people use recovery data too which mostly cost more in efficiency than it's worth.. I think this is what sales RAR to the masses..
