High resolution bitmapped graphics display, hardware accelerated 2D blitting, synchronized sound, multi-tasking OS, DOS emulation (in software!), a color display, and all for less than $1500 in 1985??
These things at introduction would have put the Xerox Star (1981), IBM PC (1981), Apple Lisa (1983), the Macintosh (1984), all to shame.
It's terribly sad to see in retrospect that no one knew quite what to do with such a thing. As an American, I grew up with PCs and never even saw an Amiga. But I can understand why many of you have such fond memories of these amazing machines.
The Amiga was light-years ahead of its time

Yes, and you have a lot of these people on this forum ! The hardware was great, but I have really discovered the software with an harddrive. It was a shock. Today, I miss a lot of well engineered things, and I still not have the pleasure I had with the Amiga, even if SSD permits to remove a lot of task waiting.
