Too much spam lately...

Post by c4s »

How about adding some addons or enabling some options in phpBB that help fighting against it?
I shouldn't be that hard to implement because some are already present!

just make it that only registered PB users can access the board, although I know there are some who might have bought PB on cd and don't have an online account.

No.

The help given in the forums converts prospective users to purchasers.

captcha systems are pretty useless really. There are many bots that bypass it easily, hence why we see spam posts here. The bots register, spew their crap and then get banned.

Stop forum spam api would do the trick for most of it... but it's been suggested before and Fred and freak say there isn't very much spam here, so it is easy enough to manage manually. So who are we to ague :P

I think it's annoying being in a "helpy mood" and then having to read those cleverly generated posts that are difficult to distinguish as spam before reading at least the half of it.

Yes, it's their forum but I would investigate in a better protection of it. I mean they could be a security risk too... anyway.

but then it's even more fulfilling if you can help the forum by 'Reporting the post' :!:

compared to BBphp2 there is really few spam in the forums and sometimes they even bring up interesting threads or are good for a small amusement - especially if you fall for them

besides they are always reported and removed very quickly :)

It often feels like I'm the only person reporting those posts. At least I'm very often the first one. ;)

Oh ! - so it's you snatching away these rare opportunities to send funny remarks to the team without ever knowing who'll read them
