Bye

Post by PB »

Hi all. I've been for quite some time, but life for me has changed a lot since the start. In the beginning I had lots of spare time and knowledge to share, and even some apps that were appreciated by the users, but now, at almost 40, it's time to retire from posting to the forums. I haven't contributed anything useful here for years, and lately all I seem to do is pick fights with people, including the team. I've had a rough life since starting here, so I'm thinking those problems are manifesting in my posts. I've got a lot of grief and aggro that I have to get over, but I doubt I ever will. So, it's not really worth me posting here anymore as I just can't seem to be nice like I used to. I am taking out my aggression on others, and I shouldn't be. It also clouds my thinking and makes me look like a fool when people point out my mistakes. I hate it, but I can only blame myself for mouthing off without thinking clearly about what I'm saying.

As such, I am retiring the "PB" name here and won't log in under that anymore. I will use a different name to lurk under, to stay up to date with PureBasic, as I will still be using it. I still love the language and always will. But I just wanted to make this post in case someone PM's me and wonders why I haven't responded. Peace. Sorry to everyone that I've ever fought with here.

Note: I am changing my e-mail address and password here to random characters and then logging out immediately after this post, so I won't be replying if anyone responds, and I won't be able to log in under "PB" again either. I don't want sympathy either, so feel free to post the old "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out" cliche, okay? I'm cool with that. I deserve it. Rock on.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Almost 40.... you young wippasnapper!

Nothing wrong with turning 40; I did that some time ago now and get dafter every day. Being daft is not a right you know, some of us have to work at it! Not KCC though; it comes naturally to him! (Only kidding Kwai!)

If you want an outlet for your aggression, then can I suggest giving Fangbeast a good kicking; it works for me! At least it would do if he'd stand still long enough for me to beat him to death with one of my old corsets!

Seriously, I can't say as I understand your reasons for abandoning your long established forum identity, but oh well, at least you'll still be floating around these parts. The choice, as they say, is yours to take and the decision yours to make.

Good luck.

Ahhh, PB, no matter what name you choose, we'll still love ya :) On the whole, you will find people like you a lot more than you think... You are still a top bloke, even when you get a little grumpy :) Just look back to how I used to be around here... hahaha, you know what I am saying!

It's good to see that you are not completely disappearing, because, I for one would miss ya! It was your helpful posts that persuaded me that "this is the language for me!" :P.

Not trying to swell your ego or anything :P

oh, as I know that you'll be reading this... Don't let the door hit ya on the way out eh? :)

I'm sorry we'll be seeing less of you, you'll be missed. But do post from time to time, you often have sensible things to say. Don't worry about how much you're contributing, hell half the shit I post isn't good for much. But it's fun anyway.

You are a good guy with great coding skills and not having you around anymore would be a big loss. So take a break and relax for a moment. After all it's just an Internet forum with some virtual dudes. I'm a little afraid that you take this so seriously. Anyway, go on vacation if you are "burned out" and you'll tick as normal again.

Very true...

How do you define "anything useful"? Heck, my whole existence on this forum is nothing but smoke and mirrors... Knowledge over time transforms in wisdom... And we sure need that here. Not only code matters, constructive criticism, ideas, etc. are as valuable.

Well that is not your bad. You don't have to change/feel bad about yourself because others want to... Each one of us is free to be how he feels to be.

I am sad you took the decision not to post anymore, i will sure miss you...

I know what it's like to be controlled by negative emotions PB. At times it clouds your judgement and hinders your ability to think straight. Negative energy can and will wear you down over time, and it appears as though that time has come for you.

Knowing and admitting you have issues to deal with was the first step to healing yourself. Your strength, determination and desire to become the person YOU want to be will get you through to the end.

Good luck PB :)

PB, there have been many times when i've read your postings and they have helped me a great deal in working with PureBasic. I sort of look at them and say "Ahhh, now that makes sense, I understand now. Wow, this will work now." In fact there have been times when I was searching the forums for something and was specifically looking for things you had to say on a subject.

We all have things in life that affect us, some drastically and life altering detrimentally, and then those good things too that we celebrate. We all have periods where life is just crap and nothing is going right and we get angry and it spills over into other areas of our life. But you know something, the internet is a wonderful place for this actually. Your free to express and state and say, without the real life face to face interaction that matters. Thats a good point about the internet, in that its in a certain way therapeutic for some that its lets them vent or dispell or displace or relieve that anger or those feelings and gives them a place to do so without really damaging actual face to face personal social interaction. Sure, some might get upset in response, big deal. They get upset then their life goes on, they don't just sit and stew over what someone said. In a way it reminds me of that old cartoon picture, the one where the guy is setting at the computer and his wife is asking if he is coming to bed, his response is "Not now, someone is wrong on the internet!".

Its sort of like that in a way to some but those are actually in the small minority, and i've not seen anything from anyone here that holds what youv'e said or done as a disturbing relationship matter or bears any animosity towards you. In fact, although i've not been around here as long as some, I see you as a great source of knowledge and contribution and there have been many times i've dug out some of your old code and words of wisdom and they helped me greatly. I even have a snippet archive that contains nothing but snippets from you.

What, in the long run I think i'm really getting at is this; Despite your feelings or concerns, please don't let those color your preception of your forum relationships here. Many people here respect and admire you, and like the old saying goes "when others leave you, the ones left that still stay around you and accept you for what and who you are then these are your true friends." and many here have stayed around.

I hate to see such a great source of talent and knowledge leave, and I wish you would reconsider. However, understanding that such effects in your own life can wear on you to the point where some things just are not as important to you as they once were and you feel the need to move on and discover another path, i wish you wellness and happiness and hope you find your way.

But remember this, no matter what name you lurk under, and I warn you now, we will hunt you down and still be your friend regardless if you like it or not. :)

Oh noes! talisman is a The Fool evil clone. What will we do. Sure, it starts out like this, you ask for another persons name to be transfered to you but thats just a gateway to worse things. Next thing you know you will want more and more, and before long we will cease to exist because you will have all our names. An evil plot indeed. :)
