Spam/fraud from "user" purebot?

Post by bbanelli »

I guess I'm not the only one that got it in my PM, but except some twisted personal agenda, who would have any use from stealing my (our) PureBasic account data?

Yes, it's a fishing site, don't enter any identifiant here. Real news are only available on http://www.purebasic.com site, don't fall in this trap.

Yes, I just got one too. Endlessly amused me, especially since I am studying hard these days and need amusement.

Fred, why don't you report this one on: http://www.dot.ga/en/reportabuse.html ?

And once again, I'm not a big fan of conspiracy theories, but PB's user base and platform is rather small for such targeted and dedicated attack? Or am I wrong?

I've just had a PM from 'Ered', who apparently is the latest member of the forum, offering me PureBasic 5.55 and new SpiderBasic!

It looks like he or she may be targeting new members.

Needless to say I assumed it was a phishing attack and haven't clicked on the links given.

I just reported "purebasic.ga" to Google as a scam site, so hopefully unaware users will get a phishing warning when they try to visit it.

Just did the same with the registrar, freenom.com, through their abuse and copyright channels. Apparently, the domain name is a free-to-use registration, so it shouldn't be too difficult to shut it down.

Let's hope. 8)

It appears that the DNS entry for the domain name has been removed and the site is no longer reachable.

All's well with the world again.

It was advertising a 6.0 invite in my case. Interesting someone would want to include a relatively small programming community in a phishing campaign.. This screams noob botnet owner..
