How to Get the Volume ID of a Hard Drive

Post by PB2004 »

When I built real-world apps in DBPro, I had a very simple copy protection scheme that I believe prevented a lot of casual piracy. I would distribute a trial version that would collect the 7 or 8 character volume ID for a customer order. Then I would send the full version that looked for this same ID to run. I liked it because I could truly say I wasn't screwing with the user's machine. But then I had to rely on a third party add-on to read the drive ID.

I would like to do something similar for an app that I am building in PB, but have not run across equivalent functionality. Does someone have some (simple) code for this they could share? I understand there is the "ID" and then the really unique manufacturer's ID. Either one would work I suppose. Thanks in advance.
